Age must not be an obstacle to employment

Every person is as old as they are. A young person doesn’t get old in a day. An old person cannot become young again. Every age has its strengths and weaknesses when it comes to work. Young people usually have a lot of strength but less experience. Older people tend to have a lot of experience, but may have a little less strength. It is not right to employ only old people or only young people. Employees should always be selected based on who can do the job best.

Let’s see how Sirje got herself a good job.

Sirje, 48, had been working in customer service for a long time. She has been selling beauty products for many years. Sirje really enjoys her job as a customer service representative. Sirje is great at communicating with people. Sirje knows beauty products very well and has extensive knowledge in this field.

Sirje decides to find a new workplace. There is a beauty shop pretty close to her home. Sirje wants to know if there are any vacancies in the shop. She looks at the job offers and sure enough, this the shop is looking for a new customer service representative. However, the job advertisement states that the shop is looking for people aged 18-45.

Sirje doesn’t understand why such an age limit is necessary. After all, she has all the knowledge, skills and extensive experience in this particular field.

Sirje responds to the job advertisement despite the age limit. Sirje is hired after all, because she turns out to be the most suitable applicant for the job.

If a person has the skills, knowledge and experience required for the job, they should not be excluded because of their age.
